Sony Camera Dslr I have a Sony a230 DSLR camera and I was wondering?
which camera lens has the most zoom. my brother surfs and i want to pictures of him but the standard lens isn't enough. also how can i tell which camera has the farthest zoom if i need another one.
Well it's probably the focal length, which is measured in mm, and not the zoom you should be focusing on. The higher the number the further away from the subject you can be. Zoom is a lens where you can regulate this focal length between a shorter or longer distance.

If you plan to be on the beach and take pictures of your brother surfing you would probably need at least 300 mm.

Digital Camera Kit How do I setup my lighting kit to sync with my digital camera?
I just bought a strobe and softbox kit, how do I get it to sync with my Canon Eos Digital rebel xt? I will be taking photos at a club tomorrow night and will be taking pictures. I will need the continuous light on from the softbox and I tested it this morning - but I am having trouble adjusting my camera settings and the strobe settings. How do I do it? I also purchased a hot shoe safe sync from WEIN that supposedly works with my camera to put on the hot shoe and sync with the PC cord that goes with the strobe. It seems to only work when I use my other external flash though (canon speedlite 430) because that flash triggers the strobes. I dont even know if the WEIN hot shoe sync works.
1) Set the strobe where it lights the subject as you desire. Strobe should be set to trigger with twe cable, not with the cell, because it will fire to ANY flash, not only yours.
2) Check strobe exposure AND also ambient light exposure, decide about strobe and ambient balance (which is going to be used as fill, which as main or effect light)
Take on consideration if your subject moves to/from strobe and take exposure measures on several points, take notes about this.
3) Set your camera to manual and adjust speed and aperture
4) Put the Wein safe sync on your camera and connect to the strobe. The Wein sure sync asures that trigger voltage is less than 5 volts. It should work with the hot shoe
5) Test camera-strobe connection
6) Test exposure
7) Shoot. use your notes to adjust aperture if subject moves away or gets near to strobe. Do this only if you can not check exposure again.

Nikon Tamron Sigma Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 for Nikon?
I'm looking for a new lens, and landed on the 70-200mm.
i don't have the cash to lay down on the Nikkor 70-200, so im wondering if the Sigma 70-200 is a decent alternative. A friend of mine who also shoots Nikon recommended the Sigma but i want other people's opinions as well.
also, is it true that Tamron's AF motor is much slower than Sigma's HSM and Nikon's AF-S? I hear that the HSM can kind of keep up with the AF-S but i find that hard to believe since the AF-S on the Nikkor 70-200 is very fast..
I have a Nikon D60, this will be my first new lens purchase (i have the kit lens and 55-200mm which also came with the camera) and i am willing to live without the image stabilization.
Any of the Sigma HSM or Tamron BIM lenses will work on your camera, but I think you will be happier buying a used Nikon AF-S 70-200 mm f/2.8 in the long run. Nikon lenses last for decades ... the same cannot be said for generic lenses and one of the rules in photography says, "buy the lens once". This may mean waiting until you can afford the one you want and need, rather than accepting second best.

Comparing the S90 with a digital SLR isn't really fair! I have both, I use both, and they complement each other but each has its own advantages in given situations.
For the ultimate flexibility, ultimate ability to get the shot, and ultimate image quality you can't beat an SLR. There are some situations when only an SLR will do.
However, carrying around bodies, lenses, flashes and other accessories can be quite a load. Sometimes it's OK but sometimes it's a pain.
The S90 is a wonderful little camera. It's packed with useful features, it is capable of very high image quality (within its limitations), and the best thing of all is that you can carry it around all day and not even realise you are carrying it.
For general travel purposes the S90 should be fine, but if you want to do some more specialised photography you may find it isn't up to the job.
Unless you are taking photos of subjects that require the speed and responsiveness of an SLR, you will probably find that the S90 will be good enough. If you think that your long-term photography plans will require an SLR, you might be better off starting to build up an SLR system now.
If you can afford it, buy both and have the best of both worlds!
