What's a good affordable digital SLR camera?
I have been looking around and don't really know what's a good DSLR camera. I am an amateur so I'm looking for something inexpensive like I found the nikon d40 for about $380 "recertified". 400 or a little over is probably the top I would pay and if not as a "kit" I'd like to know where I can get a nice starter sort of lens.
I have looked at ones that have some qualities like DSLR cameras like the panasonic fz28k or fz28s(same thing just different color). I really want one for long exposure which that camera does up to 1 minute and I also want to take videos which I'm not sure how many DSLR camera's let you do that.
I took a photography class in high school so I know a few more things than the average person, but in no way as much as a pro or hobbiest.
Okay. The least expensive DSLR is the D40 with 18-55 mm lens ... $400.

Most cameras do not have shutter speeds slower than 30 seconds. After that you will need to use the bulb setting. With it you can make your exposures as long as you like ... the longest exposure I have used is four hours.
There is no video on DSLR's except the $1000 Nikon D90 and $2700 Canon 5D, Mark II What you get with a DSLR is total control over shutter speeds and apertures, a sensor that is over 15 times larger than P&S camera and interchangeable lenses from fisheye to extreme telephotos. All the skills you have from your classes in high school, can be directly transfered to a DSLR.
