Wide Telephoto Lens IS/VR Lens for Wide-angle or Telephoto ?
I'm considering buying an Image Stabilization/Vibration reduction lens on a tight budget. Does it make sense for me to have these anti-shake technologies in the wide-angle end or the telephoto end?
Should I buy a 18-55mm VR or a 55-200mm VR?
(the range of coverage isn't a concern). I can understand that the telephoto range would definitely need VR. Does wide-angle need VR too (while working in the macro range) ?
Buy the VR telephoto.
When shooting macro shots you will usually have a very shallow depth of field. That means that it isn't only vibration/movement up and down or side to side you are worried about, it's also moving the camera closer and further away which makes the subject go in and out of focus. You need to shoot from a tripod to get sharp macro shots, so VR doesn't help much. (VR should be turned off when the camera is on a tripod.)

Adapter Digital Cameras Why does my Philips USB adapter not charge my Kodak digital camera?
At first i thought it was the battery so i bought a new one, but it does the exact same thing. the indicator light on the top flashes red when i plug it into the computer. i've only had the adapter for about 4 or 5 months.

The 28-200 mm lens is one designed for use on 35 mm SLR's (28 mm is not a wide angle lens when used on a DSLR like the D40)
The 18-55 mm AF-S is a wide angle to medium telephoto lens which works perfectly on D40's.
Unless the lenses you buy are AF-S or AF-I, they will not auto-focus on your D40. At present, Nikon makes 27 current AF-S lenses and there are many more good used AF-S and AF-I lenses made since 1992.

I just recently bought the body of a Nikon 35mm N80 camera, and I would like to just a basic lens for it. I would like for the lens to be reasonably priced.
Check out the Nikon 28-80mm. It is about 90 bucks, which is very reasonable for a Nikkor lens, considering some of the relatively basic lenses can very easily get into the $1000.00s range

I have a Nikon/Nikkor film 70-300 mm telephoto zoom lens. Does this focal length range change if I attach the same lens to a Nikon digital SLR? What's the conversion formula?
All Nikon dSLR cameras to date have a 1.5 focal length multiplier.
