Lens Filter Adapter Which lens adapter and what kind of lens and external flash should i get?
So i have a canon s5 IS and i want to buy additional lens, the adapter, and external flash for it. i'm also thinking of getting a polarizer and filters. what i want to ask is suggestions as what kind (and brand) of lens, external flash, polarizer and filter i should get. what is the real difference between telephoto lenses and macro lenses? can't you take close up photos with telephoto lenses? should i get the 52mm adapter or 58mm instead? which one has more benefits to it? i don't have very much knowledge on these things yet. any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
The S5 IS is a point & shoot superzoom camera with 12x optical zoom (equivalent to 432mm). It does have the ability to add-on a wide converter and tele converter, as well as a close-up lens, but these are nowhere near as as good as the normal lenses found on dSLR cameras (they're only converter lenses, after all) so don't expect image quality to be too great.
You can find out which Canon ones are compatible by looking in your Advanced User Guide (pages 190-191), but I think you'd be wasting your money.
For an external flash, maybe have a look at Canon's 220EX.

Iii Zoom Lens Tamron AF 70-300mm OR Canon EF 75-300mm lens for Canon 450D?
Really want to get a long distance zoom lens for my Canon 450D as my current one is only 18-55mm.
Either can you suggest any good ones that fit the Canon 450D or which of these two do you think is the better option.
Both cost very similar amounts so that isn't so much of an issue.
Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan
I use a Rebel XS (1000D) and I have a Tamron 18-200. For the most part it's okay but it has some issues. I don't know if these are specific to this lens, the 18-200 in general or Tamron as a whole.
My 18-200 has aberration issues with pinkish edging at full zoom out at the left side of the frame.
It doesn't very often grab focus correctly at the lower f/stops - 5 and below.
It fits my Canon body and everything works but the focus issue is really a nightmare.
It is, however, an excellent time exposure lens, like this.

It does pretty well in full sun but if you download and magnify this shot you'll see heavy aberrations to the lower left where all the people are.

So last week, tired of this stuff, I bought a Canon 28-200 and all these issues went away. Take a look at the crisp focus of this lens.

Simple comparison between this and the balloon shot and you'll see the difference in the optics right away.
I'm not speaking against Tamron but from my experience this Canon lens is far better than the Tamron that I own.
Also, I do own a Canon 75-300. I think the optics are fine but the zoom is a little stiff. Again I don't know if it's this particular lens or not.
