Wide Telephoto Lens IS/VR Lens for Wide-angle or Telephoto ?
I'm considering buying an Image Stabilization/Vibration reduction lens on a tight budget. Does it make sense for me to have these anti-shake technologies in the wide-angle end or the telephoto end?
Should I buy a 18-55mm VR or a 55-200mm VR?
(the range of coverage isn't a concern). I can understand that the telephoto range would definitely need VR. Does wide-angle need VR too (while working in the macro range) ?
Buy the VR telephoto.
When shooting macro shots you will usually have a very shallow depth of field. That means that it isn't only vibration/movement up and down or side to side you are worried about, it's also moving the camera closer and further away which makes the subject go in and out of focus. You need to shoot from a tripod to get sharp macro shots, so VR doesn't help much. (VR should be turned off when the camera is on a tripod.)

Adapter Canon Cannon Cannon Power Shot S2 IS uploading?
We are new to using cameras of this high quality (at least high for us). My daughter picked up a used S2 IS that is in very good condition. However it did not come with the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk Ver.24. so we are having trouble uploading pixs to our PC. I am using MGi Photosuite photo software to upload the memory card via a USB adapter. What we are finding is that not all of the pictures are being uploaded so we do not know if the missing pictures are in an internal camera memory or are just not uploading. We can see them on the LCD screen when the mem card is installed in the camera. When we plug the camera directly into the PC via the USB cable it isn't recognized.
I checked the Cannon site and the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk Ver.24 program is not available for download. Where can I get this software or is there some other program we can use to get all the pictures to upload?
Purchase a separate SD memory card reader [USB 2.0] which you can connect to your PC and it should download all your pictures from the camera to your desktop. There's no need for the software since you are bypassing the USB port and any software support.

I just bought a 2x tele converter that you attatch to the front of the lens. It is making all my pictures blurry and hazy.
I'm currently using a prime lens and i'm not very satisfied with it. Is there something wrong with the product? What I see through the viewfinder is clear but when I take the picture, it appears hazy and blurry. This applies to all conditions (eg. dark environment, bright environment etc.)
My configuration is camera-lens-UV filter-Teleconverter-Hood.
HELP!
I've cleaned the lens but there is still the haze.
I also found out that my fstop was 1.8 and when I switched it to 4, it was waaayyy better. problem is, I can't take pics in low light anymore:( how can this be changed?) The shutter speed needs to be less than 1/80 and I cannot hold it steady. It's too much of a hassle to bring along a tripod wherever I go
The only teleconverters I've used have gone between the body & the lens! This is where the electronic connections are made to allow the camera to focus/meter corretly with the TC fitted. Is it a quality TC? Some third party brands make have issues with the CPU connections and AF modes.

Batteries Panasonic Fuji panasonic DMC-fz100 or fuji HS10 ?
i am looking for a high end bridge camera and have narrowed it down to these two, i cant decide which is best for what i'm looking for! i like the manual zoom & focus on the fuji , and i like the leica lens on the panasonic, i don't like the AA battery pack on the fuji , and also the panasonic doesn't have as many manual settings. i am so confused! which one is best? many thanks ;D
I would suggest you buying Fujifilm FinePix HS10 Digital Camera I don't think AA battery pack would be a big issue

I want to buy a new camera - preferably $800 and below. I can't decide on which is the best camera to buy - Canon (Ixus), Sony (Cyber-shot) or Panasonic (Lumix). I want a camera that takes REALLY clear & sharp pictures and can zoom in quite a fair bit... and one that can still take nice pictures at night or when the subject is moving - oh yeah and has multiple face detection technology. I usually take my camera with me when I'm on holidays... so it needs to have really long battery life and must be sleek and stylish. I hope it won't need to use regular batteries also - just charge the camera itself. It must have a really fast startup time and can snap the picture straightaway!
ALSO, is there any camera that can zoom in while not causing the picture to be blur? Do cameras nowadays adjust the lens automatically depending on how far the subject is or do you have to adjust the lens yourself?
Please advise me on the best camera to buy with all the features above! Thank you! =)
If $800 is your price range, you are probably best off with one of the Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras (DSLR's).
In that class of camera, you want to consider Canon and Nikon both of which are top quality picture takers when used properly. Sony and Panasonic are OK but advanced amateurs and beginning professionals almost always select the Canon or Nikon systems for a variety of reasons such as quality, variety of accessories available, standard flash cards available, etc. As to battery life, if that is a problem, take your battery charger with you when you are traveling, get a spare battery and keep both of your working batteries recharged when you are not using them and you will have no problems. Zoom is not a problem with these cameras since there is such a variety of lenses available for both systems that you will easily be able to purchase a lens that will do just exactly the kind of pictures you want to take. Really sharp and clear pictures are something almost any digital camera will do, so learn to handle whatever camera you select properly, and that won't be a problem. My definition of nice pictures at night (I am a working professional photographer) with any camera system will require a tripod. Sharp pictures of moving objects require a bit of practice with camera panning which is a skill that most people can acquire with a bit of practice. Multiple face detection technology is an advertising buzz phrase that has no meaning in the real photography world. Pick a camera that shows you what the focus point is, and then if that point is a face, concentrate on it.
Almost all cameras today will focus automaticly on your subject regardless of how far it is and what your zoom setting is. If you are looking at a camera that doesn't do that, don't buy it!
Opinion... In my business, I use the Canon system and like it very much. It produces professional quality results and is more rugged and durable and requires less maintenance (I often shoot under lass that camera friendly conditions) than any other camera system I have used.
